President McAleese has postponed all engagements for the remainder of the week - including tomorrow's visit to Tyrone - on medical grounds.

A spokeswoman for the President said Mrs McAleese's said the Tyrone visit would be rescheduled at the earliest possible opportunity.

Mrs McAleese was discharged from hospital yesterday morning after being admitted on Sunday night.

She had been feeling unwell for a number of days before she went to the Mater Private Hospital in Dublin where she was diagnosed with an infection and given antibiotics intravenously.
