A raid by the Competition Authority on the offices of IFA at Bluebell in Dublin today has been condemned by the organisation¿s leader, John Dillon.

Officers from the Competition Authority raided the IFA offices at lunchtime today and examined computer files belonging to the deputy president of the IFA, Ruairí Deasy.

The Authority is investigating whether there was any breach of competition rules by farmers who staged a picket at Drogheda Port nine days ago which prevented wheat imported from England being unloaded.

Farmers claimed the shipment of grain would lower the price paid to growers here for their cereal crops.

The importer has since said the grain has been put into storage indefinitely and would not now be sold in the Irish market.
