MANCHESTER - Ideas for the rebuilding of the bomb damaged centre of Manchester are to be opened to an international competition, the Deputy British Prime Minister announced on a visit to the city yesterday.

Mr Michael Heseltine said the IRA bomb which devastated a huge part of the city centre 11 days ago had produced a "perhaps unique" opportunity to rebuild a city for the 21st century.
