Food company IAWS said today half year profits rose 21 per cent to €27

Food company IAWS said today half year profits rose 21 per cent to €27.64 million with significant growth reported in its premium food products.

Sales growth after disposals rose by six per cent in the six months to January 31st, 2003 and margin was 0.5 per cent higher at 4.6 per cent.

The company, which owns the Cuisine de France brand of continental breads, said there has been significant growth in the markets for premium food products and IAWS is well positioned to exploit this potential.

IAWS said the food business in Ireland is trading well and Cuisine de France product range has been enhanced.

Referring to the dramatic change in eating and food buying habits seen in Ireland in recent years IAWS said smaller retailers will be required to reinvest in order to compete effectively within the wider convenience market.

This re-positioning reflects the ongoing changes in demographic trends, in particular the growing number of single person households.
