Iarnród Éireann's first full day providing hourly services in each direction between Cork and Dublin went without a hitch yesterday, according to the company.
Services now depart Dublin Heuston every hour on the hour from 7am to 9pm, and will depart Cork at 5.15am and then every hour at half past the hour, from 6.30am to 8.30pm.
Limerick intercity services have also seen a significant increase in frequency to 13 services a day in each direction. Six services from Dublin go directly to Limerick city.
Scheduled Sunday commuter services were introduced on the Kildare commuter line yesterday for the first time, serving all stations on the route.
Maynooth commuter line frequencies now include hourly services operating on the half hour from 9.30am to 6.30pm from Pearse Station, and services operating every hour from 10.30am to 7.30pm from Maynooth (departure times vary slightly).
In Mayo a new local service was introduced on the existing operation on a Ballina to Manulla Junction service.
The service, which connects to Westport and Dublin trains, is being extended to provide a local service.
Modern railcars operate return connections to provide a Ballina-Foxford-Castlebar-Westport service three times each way daily and will be accessible to mobility-impaired customers.
Dundalk commuters also got a boost with an additional services. A 7.03am departure now operates from Dundalk to Connolly Station, and the 4.50pm Connolly to Belfast service will serve Dundalk for the first time.
An additional Gorey to Dublin service is also in operation.
