The husband of Dublin woman Rachel O'Reilly was charged with her murder at Swords District Court yesterday. Joseph O'Reilly (35) was arrested shortly before 10am yesterday at Riversdale Crescent, Co Louth, and taken to Balbriggan Garda station where he was charged an hour later with the murder.
Ms O'Reilly (30), a mother of two, was killed at her home in The Naul, Co Dublin, in October 2004.
Det Sgt Patrick Marry of Balbriggan Garda station gave evidence in court of the arrest, charge and caution of Mr O'Reilly. He told Judge Patrick Brady that when the charge was put to Mr O'Reilly he made no reply and he was given a copy of the charges brought against him.
State solicitor Catherine Irwin then made two applications to the court. The first was to alter the address on the charge sheet from where he was arrested to the house in which his wife was killed. The second application was to have Mr O'Reilly remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
Mr O'Reilly's solicitor didn't object to the applications. The judge ordered Mr O'Reilly's appearance on October 27th and remanded him to Cloverhill Prison.
