NO arrests have been made in connection with the robbery of £2,000 from a safe at the Limerick prison staff canteen early yesterday morning, despite a number of Garda raids in the city.
The canteen is a new premises outside the perimeter of the 145 year old prison.
Ms Breda Pigott (45), the supervisor of a catering firm, was entering the premises through an outer door on the roadside around 6.20 a.m. yesterday when she was accosted by two armed men wearing balaclavas.
They threatened her and forced her to open the canteen safe before tying her up.
Ms Pigott was taken to the Regional Hospital, where she was treated for shock but later discharged.
Garda Insp Frank O'Brien said while no arrests had yet been made, they were following a number of lines of inquiry.
