Human remains have been found in the Wicklow Mountains by gardaí investigating the disappearance of a young woman two years ago.
It has not been confirmed whether they are of a man or a woman. The discovery was made during a dig on land in the Manor Kilbride area near the Sallygap today.
Dr Khalid Jabbar from the State Pathologist's office has attended the scene and a postmortem will be carried out later this evening at the morgue in Tallaght hospital.
Gardaí have been searching in the area for the remains of Marioara Rostas (19), who was last seen begging at traffic lights in Dublin’s south inner city in January 2008.
It is understood a tip-off led gardaí investigating her disappearance to the site and they have been searching there for about 10 days. She is presumed to have been shot dead.
While a gangland criminal from Dublin’s south inner city is suspected of being centrally involved in the murder of Ms Rostas, gardaí have not discounted the theory that the fatal shots were discharged by another person, possibly a woman.
Ms Rostas was last seen on Lombard Street East in Dublin on Sunday, January 6th, 2008, at the junction of Pearse Street. She was seen talking to a man, believed to be the gangland suspect, in a car described as a silver Ford Mondeo.
