The former Irish captain of a winning Homeless World Cup soccer team has been sentenced to four years for his part in two robberies.
Trevor Curtis, a chronic drug addict, of Sancta Maria Hostel, Charlemont Street, Dublin 2, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two counts of robbery.
Judge Desmond Hogan said Curtis made “valiant efforts” in the past to deal with his drug use. He said he would suspend the final 18 months provided Curtis undergoes a drug treatment programme and keeps the peace.
