Army experts carried out a controlled explosion on a home-made bomb today.

The Cliona Park estate in the Moyross area of Limerick was evacuated after the device was discovered this afternoon by gardaí during a planned search of a house.

The Army bomb disposal team removed the bomb to a safe location where a controlled explosion was carried out.

The scene was declared safe at 5pm and the remains of the device were handed over to gardaí for an investigation.
