The first baby of the New Year in the State was born at one second past midnight in Dublin's Holles Street hospital.

Baby David Jankauskaite was born to mum Danute Jankauskaite from Drumcondra and her partner and weighed 7lbs 2oz.

Across the city, Roisin O'Reilly Doyle was born 30 seconds into 2005 at the Coombe Hospital to her parents Lindsay O'Reilly and Nathan Doyle from Clondalkin.
