A HIT-and-run driver who killed a 21-year-old woman cyclist has been jailed for three years and disqualified from driving for life. Patrick O'Leary (29), of Kippaugh, Muckross, Killarney, pleaded guilty at Kerry Criminal Circuit Court to dangerous driving causing death. The victim was Ms Karen Fogarty.

Judge Olive Buttimer granted O'Leary leave to appeal against the disqualification hut not for 10 years. The court heard that O'Leary bit Ms Fogarty's fully-lit bicycle on August 4th, 1996, after drinking at least 10 pints of beer.
