The Donegal based Air Corps Dauphin helicopter carried out a rescue on Achill Island, Co Mayo, yesterday when a hill walker broke his ankle on a ledge. The man was walking on Slievemore when the accident occurred shortly after midday.
The call out was received by the Air Corps at 12.50 p.m. and the man was in hospital in Castlebar two hours later.
A Defence Forces spokesman said high gusts had made the winching operation "very difficult".
