Figures from the Department of Finance released this evening show the Exchequer has a surplus of €2.9 billion for the first 11 months of the year.

Tax receipts were over €1.7 billion ahead of forecast due in large part to strong VAT receipts and stamp duties on new homes.

Total tax receipts were nearly €36.8 billion, while total spending by Government departments was €35.2 billion.
