Defending champion Lleyton Hewitt confirmed his credentials as a genuine Wimbledon contender with victory over Pete Sampras in the Stella Artois Championships at Queen's Club.

Hewitt came back from a set down to beat the seven-time Wimbledon champion 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to book his place in the final for the second year running.

He will play Tim Henman in the final after the Briton defeated South African Wayne Ferreira in the other semi, sealing a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory in one hour 50 minutes.

Hewitt, who beat Sampras in the final here last year in straight sets, was actually a break up in the first set at 3-2 but lost the next four games as Sampras turned on the style on Court One.

But the third seed refused to be intimidated by the former world number one and one break of serve in the eighth game was good enough to take the second set and level the match.

Sampras's frustration boiled over at the start of the third set when he was given a warning from the umpire for smashing a ball out of court, and Hewitt continued to take full advantage.

He broke in the first game of that set and again for a 4-1 lead and then served out to complete a well-deserved victory in 91 minutes.

Thefinal between Henman and Hewitt will start at 2:30 p.m. today (Sunday) after Saturday's play was wiped out by rain.
