The Cabinet is today expected to discuss the text of a Bill which would allow for the establishment of a "reparation fund" for aggravated damages to top up the general awards delivered to women by the hepatitis C compensation tribunal.
The issue was discussed at yesterday's Cabinet meeting but sources last night said it would be considered again when Ministers resume their deliberations today.
The Bill is also designed to place the tribunal on a statutory footing.
Positive Action, the group representing women infected with Hepatitis C through Anti-D, has sought a top up of 30 per cent of the general award but the Minister for Health offered 15 per cent. A compromise in the region of about 20 per cent is thought likely.
