Hockey: Nigel Henderson has come out of international retirement to solve Ireland's goalkeeping crisis ahead of a four nations tournament which starts in Egypt this weekend.

Mark Ruddle and Gareth Lennox have been unable to travel because of academic commitments and Henderson’s brother, Charlie, is suffering from concussion after a work-related accident.

The elder sibling, who retired last September, has been working as Ireland’s goalkeeping coach but agreed to remain on standby in case of emergencies and the 37-year-old is now set to add to his 63 caps.

"Given our circumstances we couldn’t have any better replacement than Nigel," said coach Dave Passmore.

Ireland play the hosts, Italy and Poland in Cairo.
