Helicopter pilot crash lands

The pilot of a helicopter was uninjured after making a crash-landing in Co Roscommon last night.

The pilot of a helicopter was uninjured after making a crash-landing in Co Roscommon last night.

The crash-landing happened in a field near the village of Taughmaconnell.

The Coast Guard at Valentia was contacted at 8.11pm and the Shannon helicopter was requested but not needed. The helicopter came down shortly after take-off about 10km from Ballinasloe, Co Galway.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard said the pilot, who was understood to have been on his way home from the Ballinasloe horse fair, “walked away uninjured”.
