The Irish Marine Emergency Service was responding early this morning to a mayday call from the 90-foot tug Golden Cross. The UK registered vessel, with a crew of five on board, had got onto difficulty in a force-10 storm and 20-foot waves about 10 miles south of Tuskar Rock, off the south-coast. A Dublin-based Sikorsky rescue helicopter was over the vessel this morning, attempting to get a line on board, as it drifted north-westwards, while the Rosslare lifeboat stood by.
