Second baby death at Cavan hospital investigated

Family appeals for privacy as HSE looks into death of second infant in past month

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation into the death of a baby at Cavan General Hospital, the second such death at the hospital in the past month and the third in under two years.

In a statement, the HSE confirmed that a baby born on Tuesday died in the hospital today.

In accordance with normal practice, a full review of the circumstances surrounding the death will be carried out, the HSE said.

“Cavan and Monaghan Hospital management would like to offer its deepest sympathy to the family on their tragic loss and hope they will be given the privacy that they need to deal with their grief. The hospital will give the family every assistance and support required.”
