Dr Una May: Anti-doping programme manager, Irish Sports Council.
Personal/family: Married with two children aged five and two and a half.
What figure from the world of medicine or health do you most admire? Nurses are the people I most admire in the world of medicine. Their patience and understanding makes the most incredible difference not just to the medical care but the emotional care of both hospital patients and individuals in home care situations.
What other career might you have chosen? When I left school I applied for physiotherapy and analytical science, but I ended up studying sports science. These days my interest would be more swayed towards the development of recreational sport.
If you were granted three wishes for the health service, what would they be? Free medical care for all children. The Departments of Health and Education to work together to ensure that all young people get a quality introduction to sport and physical activity through PE in schools.
Proper financial and human resources to be allocated to the health promotion services to ensure the promotion of a healthy and physically active nation.
What is your greatest fear? Losing my husband and/or children.
Have you ever been a patient and were you a good one? I've only ever been in hospital giving birth, I'm not sure if that counts as being a patient.
When or where are you happiest? Looking in at my children when they're asleep in bed.
How do you cope with stress? Listening to music and/or running.
What is the trait you most admire in yourself? I'm not too good at introspection, but I would probably rate myself as being quite patient.
What is the trait you most dislike in yourself? Poor time management.
Do you use alternative medicine or therapies? I have used yoga in pregnancy. Thankfully I am generally pretty healthy and haven't had a need to use alternatives but I am fully in support of them and would be inclined to use them if I had a need.
Who or what makes you laugh? My children.
What is your motto? Life is too short.
What is your favourite TV or radio programme? I don't watch much TV and listen to even less radio. The most recent TV series I have followed was The Clinic.
What books would you bring to a desert island? David Walsh's book on Lance Armstrong when it gets translated into English. Ellen McArthur's autobiography and the latest fiction best seller at the time.
