Blueberries can help prevent cancer, according to new research from the US

Blueberries can help prevent cancer, according to new research from the US. Anthocyanins in blueberries contain a large amount of antioxidants, which in turn help cleanse our bodies of the free radicals which can lead to cancer. The antioxidants in blueberries are also believed to slow down the effects of ageing. And now with 18 growers in the Irish Blueberry Growers' Association, we can get more of them than ever. More than 30 per cent of Irish women and 25 per cent of Irish men over 40 are believed to suffer from bladder control problems. However, fewer than half of all sufferers seek medical help. Stress incontinence (leakages) and an overactive bladder (frequency and urgency of urination) are the most common problems. Treatment includes physiotherapy, medication and, in rare cases, surgery. Tirim Talk is a new free newsletter on the subject. Contact 1850-476-476 or write to Tirim Information Service, PO box 6235, Dublin 17 for a copy.
