HEALTH SHOW: Jane Plant, professor of geology and author on osteoporosis and breast cancer topics, nutritional consultant Dr Marilyn Glenville, and Dr Alex Richardson, expert on the links between children's diet and learning, are speakers at the annual Your Health Show in the RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin, this weekend.
The show will include 180 stands featuring health foods and supplements. There will also be a free lecture programme, natural food cookery demonstrations and an artisan food village. Opening hours are 11am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is€€10.
ON YOUR TOES: Dancing is an excellent way to keep fit and sociable all at the same time. Broadreach is an innovative project in which CoisCéim Dance Company is offering dance classes to young adults and the over-60s. The Keep on Your Toes programme involves one-hour dance exercise workshops for groups of people aged 60 and over. KIDS TALK: Speech and language therapist Karen O'Connor is giving a series of free information evenings for parents who are concerned about their child's speech and language development. SAFE SEAFOOD: Cod, whiting, haddock and other commonly consumed fish from Irish ports do not contain mercury levels to cause concern to pregnant women, according to Safefood Ireland which has just carried out a survey on Irish fish.
Safefood recommends that women of childbearing age, pregnant women and nursing mothers include two portions of fish in their weekly diet, one of which should be a oily fish. See www.safefoodonline.com for more details.
