Let’s Walk the talk for breast cancer, urges world champion

Irish world champion 50km walker Rob Heffernan has called on the people of Ireland to get their walking shoes on to raise much-needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society's Action Breast Cancer programme this October.

The athletics star yesterday launched the "Let's Walk" initiative in Merrion Square, and will take part in two walks, in Cork and Wicklow, next month.

More than 250 Centra stores around Ireland are hosting local walks, where limited-edition reflective vests will be on sale for €5 for Breast Cancer Awareness month, with all net proceeds going to charity.

Every county in Ireland will see pink walks, with thousands of walkers aiming to raise money for breast cancer.

The disease affects more than 2,800 women every year and is the most common cancer in women in Ireland.

People will get the chance to walk beside world champion Heffernan in Bishopstown, Co Cork, on Sunday, October 19th, and he will join walkers in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, on Monday, October 27th.
