The Southern Health Board is to conduct an immediate review of nursing practices and recording procedures in all its hospitals, following an inquiry which found serious deficiencies in the quality of patient care at Killarney Community Hospital.

The SHB's chief executive, Mr Sean Hurley, told yesterday's board meeting the review would be completed by the end of the month. Plans to introduce a quality assurance review of services will also be in place by the end of the year.
