Boxing:David Haye says he'll blast straight through John Ruiz in his first world heavyweight title defence.
Haye must face mandatory contender Ruiz next as he puts the WBA strap on the line for the first time after outpointing giant Russian Nikolai Valuev in Germany to take the title.
He told a press conference today: "Next is John Ruiz, he's the mandatory WBA challenger - I have to fight him or I get stripped. I feel I'll knock John Ruiz out. After beating someone 7ft 2, fighting someone who is 6ft 2 - it will be like fighting a cruiserweight and I'll blast straight through him.
"Then it's the Klitschko brothers, which one I don't mind - whichever one is available. We can sit round a table and make it happen. We can have a huge unification match.
"This has put heavyweight boxing back on the map - when was the last time you saw a heavyweight title fight on the back pages?"
Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, says Haye has ushered in a brave new world for the beleaguered heavyweight division.
"For how long have we been asking for a new charismatic heavyweight champion of the world? Then David decided to move up, I knew he was going to achieve his goal. I've seen his willpower. He's as charismatic as one can be.
"David Haye against one of the Klitschko would be a huge fight, one with global appeal."
Manager Adam Booth masterminded Haye's victory from the corner on Saturday night, and said the discipline and skill he showed came as no surprise.
"What he did in the fight is what he'd been doing in the gym for years. It was just what we knew. It's only after the event that you realise that having the belief in his ability and potential against the naysayers and the doubters, all come to fruition on Saturday night. Immense pride, immense satisfaction, pride in the work we've done together collectively.
"A fight with one of the Klitschkos could happen next year, next summer. I'm pretty sure Richard (Schaefer) has already had some interest from some major players in terms of venues. I've had contact from Wembley Stadium."
