Bonn - On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Prague Spring, president of the Czech Republic Mr Vaclav Havel said the 1968 reformist government erred in trying to marry democracy and communism. Mr Havel said the government "bent over backwards to reassure [Soviet leader] Brezhnev of its merely good intentions in marrying democracy with communism, a market economy with a centralised economy".
