The decision not to increase tax on diesel was described by the Irish Road Haulage Association as a welcome move "as fuel costs are the heaviest burden that haulage companies have to bear".

"Fuel is the basic raw material of our industry, and not increasing the tax on diesel will maintain the competitiveness of the road traffic industry," Mr John Guilfoyle, the president of the IRHA, said.
