The crew of a British jet fighter had a miraculous escape last night after ejecting from a Harrier moments before it crashed to the ground and burst into flames. The aircraft had been on a routine mission over the Wiltshire countryside.

The pilot and his navigator ejected to safety 50 ft over Boscombe Down, near Salisbury. Both men suffered back injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Salisbury District Hospital.
