The proposed light rail system, Luas, will reduce cross city traffic during the morning rush hour by just 192 cars, the leader of the Progressive Democrats has said.
Ms Mary Harney has seen a report which proves Luas will "do little or nothing to solve Dublin's traffic problems". She said a Luas type system had been built in Sheffield and failed "miserably".
"The Progressive Democrats want a proper rapid transit system, not an expensive flop. The system must run underground in the city centre and it must link in with the DART network to provide an integrated transport service for the whole city," she added.
