A handbag snatcher who failed to take a chance he was given by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has been sent back to jail to complete a four-year sentence.

John Kenny (24), of Mountjoy Street, Dublin 7, had 27 previous convictions for similar offences.

Mr Anthony Sammon, defending, said his client had been given a chance by Mr Justice Michael Moriarty last January to qualify himself for, admission to Coolmine Therapeutic Centre or face a four-year sentence, but Kenny had failed "to get his efforts off the ground".

Judge Cyril Kelly agreed he had no option but to impose the four-year sentence.
