The world championship leader was yesterday involved in a 175mph smash in qualifying at the Nurburgring after a faulty airgun led to the front-right wheel working loose.

Following a mandatory medical check today, a McLaren statement read: "Vodafone McLaren Mercedes are pleased to confirm that Lewis Hamilton has been cleared to race in today's European Grand Prix by the FIA medical delegate Dr Hartstein and chief medical officer of the event, Dr Klaus U Zerbian."
