PLANS by the Halifax to float on the stock market and convert to a bank will cost Britain's largest building society about £362 million sterling, according to figures published yesterday.

The Halifax revealed the cost of taking over the neighbouring Leeds Building Society last year had risen to £209 million. The £10 billion flotation has so far cost £69 million and is expected to reach £153 million.
