Gunmen today shot dead seven people who supply food to the Iraqi army in an attack on a building in Baghdad, police said.
Details of the attack were sketchy, but police said the gunmen had arrived in two cars at the building in the capital's Karrada district.
Insurgents have targeted anyone associated with the American and Iraqi forces as part of a campaign to topple the Shi'ite- and Kurdish-led government.
US military officials have warned that they expect a surge in violence around the release of the final results of the December 15 parliamentary elections, which may be published within the next few days.
