Gunmen have assassinated the Basra correspondent of the US-funded television station Alhurra outside his house in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
Alhurra is an Arabic-language satellite station set up with US funding last year to try to counter the influence of Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya, which have been criticised by Washington for their news coverage.
