Canberra - A national gun buyback set up in response to Australia's worst modern day massacre ends today with over half a million weapons handed in and no sign of the blood on the streets promised by gun lobbyists.

The government moved to tighten and regulate gun laws after 35 people were gunned down in April last year by Martin Bryant on the island state of Tasmania.
