Shots were fired at six houses in Limerick city last night.
A gunman fired up to 15 shots at the houses at St Ita's Street in the St Mary's Park estate at around 8.45pm.
It is believed the attacker was armed with a submachine gun.
There were no injuries reported but some of the houses were badly damaged.
The gunman escaped in a taxi that is understood to have been stolen last week. The car was later recovered by gardaí in Co Clare.
A Garda spokesman said the scene of the shooting and the car have been preserved for technical examination.
No arrests have been made. The attack has been linked to a criminal feud in the city.
Father-of-three Gareth Grant (25) was shot dead on St Ita's Street last November.
Labour Party Limerick East TD Jan O'Sullivan has called for an increased Garda presence in St Mary's Park following the gun attack, which she said had "horrified" local residents.
"We need a greater Garda presence in the area; they need to be on the streets 24 hours a day," she said. "We need to tackle the use of guns in our society and the full force of the State must be brought down on the criminals and criminal gangs."
Sinn Fein's justice spokesman Aengus Ó Snodaigh said Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan should free up more gardaí to fight crime by fast-tracking the process of civilianisation of administrative Garda duties.
He said the shooting was "a symptom of years of ineffectiveness on the part of gardaí due to a lack of resources over many years".
