Guwahati - Suspected tribal guerrillas shot dead eight migrants, including two children, as they slept in a makeshift market shed in the Indian state of Assam early yesterday, police said. Five of those killed in the northeastern state's Barpeta district were Muslims and the others were settlers from the eastern state of Bihar.

"Suspected guerrillas of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) raided a market place at about 2.00 a.m. (8.30 a.m. Irish time on Tuesday) and shot dead eight people on the spot," a police spokesman said.
