A second group of European tourists held hostage for up to three months in Algeria's Sahara desert has been released and are on the way to Algiers.

A German NTV television reporter in Algeria could not say how the group, believed to be made up of 15 travellers, was released or what condition the freed hostages were in.

Seventeen foreigners were freed last week by Islamic fundamentalist kidnappers.
