Athens - A Greek statesman, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, was buried yesterday with thousands of people ignoring calls to keep the service low-key and lining the streets to throw flowers on his hearse.

Mr Karamanlis, who died on Thursday from a heart attack, was laid to rest on a green hill overlooking Athens in the presence of close family, friends and top state officials.
