The Government has announced a further €2 million in Kashmir earthquake aid to support relief operations in Pakistan.

The Government has announced a further €2 million in Kashmir earthquake aid to support relief operations in Pakistan.

Minister of State Conor Lenihan made the announcement today, bringing the total amount given by the Government to €5 million.

Mr Lenihan was at a meeting of EU Development Ministers in Leeds following a briefing by Jan Egeland, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator.

With winter approaching and rain predicted in coming days, authorities are still racing to reach thousands of people cut off by the deadly October 8th quake.

Pakistan officials said winter was expected in around three weeks, leaving Pakistan army engineers and aid workers racing to clear distribution lines, reopen roads and provide shelter for hundreds of thousands of homeless people
