Washington - The US Vice-President, Mr Al Gore, has named the Secretary of Commerce, Mr William Daley, to be his new presidential campaign manager, Joe Carroll reports. Mr Daley, a son of the former mayor of Chicago, Mr Richard Daley, will replace Mr Tony Coelho, who has resigned for health reasons.
Mr Daley (51) will have the job of putting new life into the Gore campaign which is causing concern to Democrats. The latest poll in the Los Angeles Times shows Mr Gore trailing Governor George Bush by 10 points at a time when the Vice-President is promoting his policies on protecting health and social security schemes and reducing taxes.
