Three of Malcolm Glazer's sons have been appointed to the board of Manchester United in a major reshuffle of the Old Trafford boardroom.

Joel, Avram and Bryan Glazer have joined the club's board; it is thought Joel will be his father's main representative at the club.

Long-serving chairman Sir Roy Gardner confirmed his resignation today, and non-executive directors Jim O'Neill and Ian Much have also quit. Commercial director Andy Anson has been reinstated after being voted off the board by Mr Glazer at last year's annual general meeting.

David Gill will continue as chief executive for now, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson has indicated he will be staying on.

The Glazer family are already effectively in control of the club after increasing its shareholding in the club to 76 per cent last month. Glazer is due to confirm his precise stake next Monday once all replies to their offer of £3 per share have been received.
