A GIRL was killed yesterday while on her way to get the school bus

A GIRL was killed yesterday while on her way to get the school bus. Márie Hourigan (13), had just left her home and was crossing the main road at Carrigmartin, Ballyneety, near the Cat’s Cradle pub in Co Limerick when she was struck by a car shortly before 8am yesterday.

Márie was a first year student at Laurel Hill Secondary School in Limerick city.

Gardaí at Roxboro have spoken to the driver of the Silver Nissan Micra involved in yesterday’s fatal collision and are still investigating the cause.

The young victim was rushed to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick but died a short time later.

The road where the incident occurred re-opened shortly before lunch time yesterday following a technical examination of the scene.
