A 15-year-old girl who was struck with a baseball bat during an assault in Castleknock, Dublin, two weeks ago has died as a result of her injuries.
Rebecca Kiely from Dublin was struck with the bat during a fight between two men as she was standing near St Brigid's GAA club on the old Navan Road at about 9.30pm on November 10th.
She died from her injuries yesterday afternoon in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where she had been in critical condition in intensive care.
Two men appeared in Dublin District Court in connection with the assault last Monday.
The men, both of whom have addresses in Dublin, were charged with assault causing harm under section three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
They were remanded in custody to appear in court again on Monday.
It was unclear last night what further charges, if any, the pair might face as a result of her death.
It is thought that Ms Kiely, a third-year student at Castleknock Community College, was struck with the baseball bat following an argument which developed between two men.
Gardaí at Blanchardstown have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact them at 01-666-7000.
