Convicted drug trafficker John Gilligan was transferred to a Dublin hospital this afternoon for another series of medical tests.
Gilligan was moved from Portlaoise Regional Hospital where he had been under medical observation for two days complaining of pains in his arm.
The prisons service would not confirm that Gilligan is being treated for a heart-related complaint. However, a spokesman stressed that he had not sustained an injury in the prison.
Gilligan, who is serving a 28-year-sentence, was transferred to a Dublin hospital at lunchtime.
