Athletics: European 400 metres indoor champion David Gillick will miss this weekend's national championships in Belfast after coming down with a bout of flu.

The 23-year-old, who had been due to compete in the 60 metres at the Odyssey Arena, will stay in Loughborough where he has been training with coach Nick Dakin.

Gillick, who is expected to defend his European title in Birmingham next month, has been in great form this season, knocking a large chunk off the Irish 400 metres record with a time of 45.91 seconds in Germany on February 6th.

The championships, which take place on Saturday and Sunday, will also see several of Ireland's other top athletes in action and in with a chance to secure their place on the Irish team that will compete in Birmingham.
