Brussels - The government of Gibraltar yesterday broke with its decades-long diplomatic isolation from Spain by accepting an offer of talks with the Spanish government in Madrid.
Mr Peter Caruana, Gibraltar's Chief Minister, responded positively to the invitation from Mr Abel Matutes, Spain's Foreign Minister, to talks before the summer. "This is the first time that a Spanish foreign minister has offered to meet the Gibraltar government. It is an important landmark," Mr Caruana said in Brussels during a visit to lobby the European Union.
