The president of SIPTU, Mr Des Geraghty, has called on the social partners to agree a strategic five-year plan to eliminate poverty, provide free access to the health services, create "affordable accommodation", eliminate homelessness and modernise the public transport system. In a May Day statement the leader of the State's largest union said the Government and other social partners should commit themselves to what were specific, much needed and realisable goals.
