Hellebores are the ultimate spring flower for many gardeners, and they are just now coming into flower. You'll enjoy their distinctive blooms more if you cut away the old and damaged foliage. And if you haven't fed them yet, give them a handful of bonemeal (but not if there are dogs in the neighbourhood) and a good mulch of manure.

Meanwhile keep an eye out for storm damage. Wind-rocked shrubs and trees should be heeled back in, and broken or splintered branches should be tidied up.
